My journey with Kambo started on a plant medicine retreat, and on the last day there was the option of receiving Kambo. I had done a bit of research before the weekend and I liked the idea of cleansing my body but the notion of vomiting in a bucket for half an hour didn’t scream love, light and bliss to me. Even on the morning of the ceremony I was unsure about doing it but like a magnet there was something calling me in.

I left that retreat blown away by the whole experience, but it was the Kambo and not the plant medicine that had really captured my heart. I reconnected with Kambo nearly a year later as I was working through a depressive patch and met a fantastic practitioner here in the UK. There was a beautiful moment in that ceremony which awakened something in me, a little cliche but like a lightning bolt I knew deep down I was going to serve Kambo.

I would sit again a few months later in the March and the call to serve came through even stronger. This caused a lot of inner resistance; mentally I was telling myself I couldn’t do it and at the same time my heart was telling me I didn't have a choice. Then one day, whilst caught in this battle between heart and mind, I decided in my anguish, to call the practitioner I was working with to gauge his rection. There was no answer. I carried on along the cliff top where I was taking a stroll with my daughter in her baby sling and less than 10 paces later, I looked down to my right and sitting on a rock was a porcelain frog; that was all the confirmation I needed. The practitioner/shaman called me back and supported me wholeheartedly, I continued to work with him and started to assist in ceremonies as part of my initiation, training later that year [2019] with the IAKP.

I have worked with Kambo to overcome depression as well as anxiety and various addictions, to aid in the treatment for arthritis and for general trauma release. I find myself over the last few years sleeping much better, being a much more loving and patient partner, father, friend and a generally more relaxed and peaceful human being.
